This news is a week old and I haven’t seen you foolish “gamers” discussing it and what it portends for your industry. Is it a good or bad deal? Will Microsoft stop offering Activision-Blizzard’s games for the rival Playstation? Will the gaming giant’s employees fare better under Microsoft? Will they pour more resources into improving the games and creating new titles, or will it turn out to be a blunder?
In 2011, Microsoft acquired Skype for a whopping $8.5 billion then totally squandered that opportunity. They just sat by and allowed competitors such as Zoom and Whatsapp to eat their lunch. Hako kamuhindi ka Microsoft lakini hakataki mchezo, since taking over he’s done a good job of making the software giant competitive.
The government is the only entity that can stop this consolidation and spur competition. Right now it seems unlikely because the tech sector gives millions of dollars to politicians. These giant tech firms have money to burn, they can buy any company they set their sights on. Last year Microsoft had a net profit of $44 billion. It currently has cash reserves of over $130 billion. The company can afford to pay cash for Activision-Blizzard and still remain with over $60 billion lying around.
