You have heard of Patriarchy, Nigerian Patriarchy, Igbo-Nigerian Patriarchy, Anambra version of Igbo Patriarchy, but have you heard of Mexican/Hispanic Machismo? Lol!
This is it right here: Mexican’s first female president was interacting with her people in public when a man walked up to her, put his arm around her, kissed her, went behind her and groped her breasts from behind in a backward embrace.
Sexual assault is not about pleasure; it is about exerting power, control and dominance. If you read about machismo and learn about Hispanic women and girls experience of this version of misogyny and patriarchy, you will understand that this was a man making a statement to remind this powerful woman that “She is still a woman at the end of the day” who will remain merely an object of his desires. A woman who ought to be at home, cooking his meals, raising his children, and staying out of roles meant for men.
And this why they vote the way they do in the US even though they remain the major target in immigration discourse.
When sex is stigmatized, it is used by men as a tool to belittle and oppress/suppress women.
This is why men prescribe rape for feminists as a corrective tool. Some don’t pass on the chance to remind us that at the end of the day, “It is still a man that will marry us and sleep with us.”
Within patriarchy, men crave sex but also use it as a tool to objectify and diminish women. Because in a sane world, why is an act that is supposed to exist for mutual pleasure even a tool for correction and humbling?
Normal, healthy and emotionally intelligent men only enjoy sex and acts related to pleasure when it’s given under easily verifiable consent.
The flipping audacity and depravity needed to exert this disgusting behavior on a sitting president needs to be studied.
A lady said when men hit age 18, they all need to be sent to prison and then work their way out from there to prove to society that they are decent human beings. And I agree…
The president has filled charges and now we wait…
