@Meriamata-more info when Kenya/UG nearly went to war

Regarding your TBT,an article i read says UG had no jets when Amin declared war on Kenya for helping the Israelis during the Entebbe raid. They had been actually destroyed/damaged by the israeli commandos in the entebbe rescue-They had been stationed at Entebbe airport at the time. This was done inorder to stop Amin from pursuing the airplane the hostages were flown away in.
Also when Amin made good his threat of invading Kenya by ammassing UG troops on the UG/Kenya border, one kenyan jet not only crossed the border but went on ahead to Entebbe and made a sonic boom over the city to serve as a detterence.

MM equally stated the same about the destruction of the fighter jets in the Israeli entebbe raid. Also note by then Kenya had a mutual defense pact with Ethiopia, which still exists to date, an attack on Kenya would see Ethiopian forces join the war, this is due to the then Somali claims for land in both NE Kenya and Ethiopia. Just recently,a few years back the Egyptian army and the Ethiopian forces heightened hostilities due to the Nile river use, we watched while crossing our fingers na kukaza tanye that their would not be any war. The Egyptians are on another level on matters military.

It was also a nice diversion from the JM debacle, the whole country solidly United behind Jomo when it was claimed the Ugandan border would be at Naivasha

Abnormal Police walitandika Waganda kwa border wakijaribu ujinga

sometimes I wish Uganda had annexed the Western part of Kenya. Wanasumbua sana. #nimevaahelmet

Hehehe, they would have been saved from having to deal with ujinga ya uthamaki. There would have been mass exodus of non-indigenous people from rift valley

My two cents:
Ug has the numbers military wise. Military yao ina wanajeshi wengi, actually they double ours.Uganda pia wako hardy on matters wars due to their history na wamepea hadi watchmen guns. Hapa sisi ukiona gun ni kutoka mbio. Even without the threat of war, when one gets to the age of majority(18 years), one should be pursuaded to join the military. So maali tumeza shindia waM7 ni kwa airstrikes pekee. Ground warfare na combat hatuwawezi

It is said, it is better to remain silent in certain situations than to speak up and look like you have no idea about the things you are talking about.

I agree with you military man…but those stats I also read from history books, mayb you shed some more light on the same

  1. Apart from people inside security services, no one really knows the actual number of KDF personnel.

  2. Just because you have fought in many conflicts does not mean you will automatically beat everyone in war. Remember Tanzania taking Kampala and yet they hadn’t fought in any conflict worth mentioning?

  3. Just because it doesn’t appear in the news doesn’t mean Kenya hasn’t had her share of conflicts. When Ethiopia and Somalia were fighting, guess who was there helping the Ethiopians. There were various raids against Somali targets mounted from Kenya.

  4. Conscription in this day and age occurs in countries that have their way of life seriously threatened by large scale invader and will need serious manpower to overcome them i.e Lithuania, Latvia, Sweden against Russia and Israel against the middle east. Who do we have that threatens our way of life?

  5. UG has six operational jets that have far more range, and each can engage 4 targets at one time beyond visual range. On the other hand Kenya has numerical superiority at 24 F-5 whose air worthiness is unknown but if all were air worthy, that right there is a stalemate of sorts. Other factors like pilot training, tactics and effectiveness of air defence come into play. The advantage Ke has is airlift capacity and here landing Rangers/Paras to capture airports before their aircraft take off would be a major boost.

As you can see, nothing is black and white as you put it.

My argument was only with regards to ground combat given the obvious numbers. Air combat we are obviously superior (and that’s how we would take them out) given the US and UK support, whether we have engaged in peace missions/operations or not.

That is the other thing.

Ground combat covers areas such as armour, motorisation of infantry, artillery, special tactics e.t.c

Ug has atleast 50 more tanks than Kenya but you forget there is a force multiplier. No tank commander will drive his tank in the open knowing fully there’s 50 helicopters ready to take him out as soon as he warms up his engine. Your tip of the spear is made blunt. How do you think things will go from there?

Again, let me take you to the Arab Israel conflict, say Yom Kippur war. Israel attacked on two different fronts with the arabs enjoying the numerical advantage. What happened? Syria was driven back to within 30kms of Damascus and Egypt had to capitulate lest a whole division which was surrounded be bombed to shit. What made that possible? Impressive tank gunnery and superb tactics all rising from superb training they received.

In such a situation, US/UK cannot take sides. Either they will try to stop it, or resupply both sides.
