Meet 'Nairobi Distance Zero' From Where Distance From And To Nairobi Is Measured

You have heard that from Nairobi to somewhere else is about 200 kilometers but do you know from which point in Nairobi do they start the counting of these figures. This point is referred to as THE NAIROBI MILLIARY STONE!

The Nairobi milliary stone which is next to the Teleposta building is a monument that may seem to be forgotten and serves as the point zero of Nairobi where all distances in Kenya have been measured from e.g Nairobi to Mombasa and even regional like Nairobi to Juba.

It was built in 1939 in memory of Lionel Douglas Galton-Fenzi was the first man in January 1926 to drive from Mombasa to Nairobi, co-driven by Capt. Gethin.

That road trip took more than a week! The Galton-Fenzi memorial monument next to GPO is in his honor. He founded the East African Automobile Association besides devising Kenya’s road system.

This monument is also called the Nairobi Nairobi point zero as it was at the point from which distance from and to Nairobi and other parts of the country was measured.

It is situated at the junction between Kenyatta Avenue and Koinange Street. The monument currently resembles a grilled tomb. We pass here every day.

Stupid fake news…so every town or city has this BS and people measure the distances between them?..retarded

Hii hasira yote mnatoa wapi?

Hasira na facts…hazina correlation…hekaya za abunwasi remain just dat

Anarabwa na Nabii lakini ako in denial.

Distance zero 0⃣ for every town is usually the main post office. Nairobi ni GPO hence the stone above.

I actually thought it was more towards Jevanjee. But it makes more sense being towards the railway.

White chieth skin want to credit for everything

Mimi nikikuwa najua ni hapo Hilton hotel

Mimi nilikua bonobo zaidi kwa sababu nilifikiri eti Athi River Mlolongo general area ndio about 480 kilometers to Mombasa. So, having discovered this today, many things now make sense. For instance, Nairofi nî mbere ya Gatharainî.

@Meria Mata, niwaigua! Kufika Kasarani si kwamba umefika îlovi!

Do you know that the railway passed through Jomo Kenyatta avenue and onwards to westlands before it was diverted to current route by Grogon after his wife complained of the noise made by the train at their residence in Chiromo

Atî atîa???

Nikuwekee mbisha uone?

Weka.
