Taken up a new career as a jet pilot. Very interesting, everything happens very fast.
Autolanding and F14 on the USS nimitz is nothing like landing a Boeing at JFK. You begin the approach in an F14 at 15nm off, hook down, gear down at 225knots, flaps down one slot, power up a little, maintain 3000ft, flaps full at 160knots…auto throttle at 12degrees AOA, autopilot engaged when meatball nears the centreline, ACLS on at 7nm, DCS engage after auto pilot connects, engage speedbrakes.
Sit back and relax as the carrier brings in the F14. The landing is rather hard at 800ft/m descend rate, when you hit the deck throttle to maximum. If the cable arrests you, throttle down, if you miss or cable breaks, pull up and repeat, if you dont throttle up and the cable breaks or you miss them you will end up in the ocean, eject right away.
Loving this…
