Rally ace Maxine Wahome has been declared fit to stand trial for murder following a successful mental assessment at Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Her family has engaged Senior Counsel Philip Murgor, a former Director of Public Prosecutions, alongside Mr Steve Kimathi and Mr Andrew Musangi to defend her against allegations that she killed her boyfriend Assad Khan.

The mental check was ordered by High Court judge Lilian Mutende last Tuesday. Ms Wahome was escorted to the hospital by police for the test which took between 15 and 20 minutes.

Ms Wahome, who is expected to take plea on Wednesday has applied to be released on bond pending trial at the High Court. She says the constitution allows a court of law to free a suspect on bond ahead of plea-taking unless there are compelling reasons as provided under Article 49 (1)(b) of the Constitution.
