My take on Mau Evictions is that what wee see, is a well orchestrated public gallery played by the Jubilee Government
Even in 2013, Jubilee knew the political implication of the move and that is why they did not do it. They know it is a necessary evil. And doing it at this time, is the right time. They know it might cost Ruto and the sentiments by Murkomen are well calculated by Uhuru and Ruto to portray Ruto to be on the side of the victims while he stands with the policy.
However, Uhuru has nothing to lose. He is in the last term and will not again seek votes. In this term, it is the one where they want to calculatively institute policies that have political costs. With support of the Ruto, they had to bring on board Raila who will take the political blame for this policies while Ruto will be seen as a victim. In this case, even if the policies are against the Kalenjins, Ruto will still earn sympathy support.
This policy applies to fight against corruption. And Robust Alai alluded to this in a tweet. Even Ruto is aware that he has guys corrupt to the core and he want the floor made AT LEAST clean before his time. Even corruption fight had political cost, grave for Uhuru reelection and he had to massage the ego of these thieves.
Vile @Mediocre amesema. In addition, mimi naona hii vita ya Mau ilipangwa mbali sana na watu wenye ustadi mkubwa wa kisiasa. The sign was clearly written on the wall when Keriako Tobiko was given the environment docket.
I personally feel it is a genuine cause after the prolonged drought that affected the country in 2016 and 2017. It’s being orchestrated by Uhuru’s wing of the government and couldn’t be done before his re-election. He couldn’t jeopardize 2.5 million votes. As for WSR, he can only grab the opportunity to gain sympathy votes from the situation. However, do you think Ruto really needs sympathy votes from Kales? I don’t think so. Actually, he will be losing more if he oppose the evictions than if he supports them. Kales will vote for Ruto anyway. But look at the other tribes who are affected by destruction of Mau…hapo ndio kuna mtihani my fren.
The reason he could need sympathy votes is that, another guy like Gideon Moi could cash in on the Mau issue to become new Kalenjins hero. Ruto portraying himself as a victim and seeking sympathy could check that
The next step will see these guys compensated. Obviously no one is saying that now to avoid opportunists, but wait for the supplementary budget in sept and capturing of their data. WSR will be there to hand over cheques. Msitu lazima watoke either way.
