A man accused of killing his expectant girlfriend has been detained for 14 days to allow conclusion of investigations.
Mohamed Abdullahi Hassan was arrested on April 30 at about 8.30pm in Pangani area following allegations that he seriously assaulted his pregnant girlfriend who later died while in hospital. In a sworn affidavit, the investigating officer said the victim sustained injuries that led loss of a lot of blood.
The victim, according to the supporting affidavit, was rescued by neighbours who rushed to Pumwani Maternity hospital, where she was treated.
Her condition deteriorated and she was referred to Kenyatta National Hospital, where she died while undergoing treatment.
Police asked for two weeks to conclude their investigation.
They said the time would help them obtain postmortem examination forms, medical reports and statement recording of witnesses.
The suspect did not object to the application.
Makadara Chief Magistrate Hestone Nyaga granted the request and ordered that the suspect be detained at Pangani Police Station.
It’s saddening. Though these incidents have been there all along. Only that with the advent of social media and sensational media the news spread wider faster. However this doesn’t justify their occurrence.
I recall when I was growing up many many years ago, I heard/witnessed such cases as:
Son hacks parents to death over land.
Man commits suicide by hanging.
Kid commits suicide by taking excessive Aspirins, thinking they were sweets.
-Mother commits suicide by throwing herself into a swollen river.
-Businessman shot dead.
-Young man hacks, brother, father, sister in-law and uncles over land.
-Young man dies after taking Marathion pesticide.
These incidents were never aired anywhere even on then vernacular stations or newspapers but they happened anyway and would leave the villagers and us, the then young children traumatised for months.
Hii ya siku hizi is on a daily basis. Nikaa watu wanashindana. I belief you don’t need to clench your fist to prove you are a man. If it’s not working why don’t you take a break or you leave for good. Kweli marriage is not for children.
