Talkers, what are your strategies for reaping maximum during this period? Apart from the usual 500 bob handouts, how else can we milk these politicians before they start milking sodomizing us?
Am thinking of starting a local county newspaper and have them advertise there. I make it a 32-page paper A4 size and cheapest quality- zile huuzwa 10bob kwa matatu.
Simple maths zinaonyesha:
[ol]
[li]100 adverts from MCAs every month @10K=1M (do localized versions for MCAs to accomodate the 100)[/li]
[li]20adverts from Gubernatorial/senatorial candidates every month @30K=600K[/li][li]20 adverts from MP candidates every month @20K=400K[/li][/ol]
Total=2M every month. Get a way to manage printing and distribution at less than 1M. Net is 1M. Do this from Apr to Aug=5 months=5m.
Too many people came to think the way you are thinking. Hadi bulk printing imekua no longer economically viable juu ya brokers. Bulk printing is something i had been doing until early this year when that idea became saturated.
Not quite. You absorb all the costs of printing, then vijana wa mtaa unawapea free wauzie watu 10 bob. Creating employment. I imagine the cost of printing would be like 50b0b at max, so if you do 10,000 copies itakua 0.5m as printing costs, nao vijana wanauza wanapata 100K. Am sure so many people would want to be the sellers.
I haven’t seen any publication for my county, so i think there aren’t too many players. On bulk printing becoming uneconomical, that is a plus for me. I can get a good deal, ama?
For any business, you have to come up with a five year strategy especially a marketing one. Here you have made a number of assumptions which is a NO NO:
-Yours is a 5 month short term strategy instead of a long term one.
-Learn about the competition and how their success or failure rate has been-Look at the People Daily, Pwani Star, Mt kenya Star: Why are they not so popular even when distributed for free?
-What value will your paper add to the reader?
-Are you any different from gutter press?
-Do you trust politicians to pay you after you have run their advert? Because for a start-up like yours it will be impossible for them to make advance payments.
My advise is get the MCA’s, MP’s and Governors on-board first (paid in full and cash) and then venture into the biz. Those 100, 20, 20 adverts you mention are not easy to come by as you think.
Nice insight. But this is purely a 5-month business, after that close shop. I think people would happily spend 10bob on a publication that analyses their son- that MCA candidate from the next family. Its gutter press kind of. Publish then the guys pay before next publication. No-one will want to miss out. During the last month, payment upfront- nobody will want to miss.
In my village, there are 18 aspiring MCAs. My county has like 25 wards. If my ward is an average, then that would mean450 MCAs. So, a target of 100 is like 25%, which is realistic.
Money is in the counties this election period but stop quoting those statistics as signed up clients. Get sample of the magazines, meet them, let them sign up and pay cash in full. Only then will you know the true worth of the venture.
kuna bags flani za wamama mca wa hapo home alikuwa anataka, each bag inacost 27 wholesale price na mi namuuzia na 130 bob.
huyu jamaa anazitaka in batches sa bado niko pale kwa takeout.Niko na ingine ya key holders lakini supplier anataka kukula sana ju amejua nimeangukia…ni vitu flimsy but very profitable
As far as the samples are concerned, you oversee the design and email it,i put them on paper then send them a as parcel. Ikiivana i give you a quote once you’ve figured how many copies you’ll need to print per month/week/day e.t.c
