Maandamano

The government is run by a bunch of clueless people. But is maandamano the solution? I would say no. The opposition needs to call maandamano off and watch the government self-destruct.

The cluelessness of the people appointed into the government is not in doubt. The rolling back of the clock to the Moi era policies can be seen. These, coupled with a global economic downturn will lead to a failure of the government. Most of the promises made will not be delivered (somebody share the link to the website that tracks these).

What the opposition should be doing is strategise and wait for the inevitable downfall of the government and a disillusioned public and take advantage of that in 2027. They should have been letting a smart, charismatic, energetic leader start taking over the reigns as opposition boss.

Maandamano is not a sustainable strategy of keeping the government in check. The momentum cannot remain for long. People get tired. People are tired. Let it be an occasional resort. As the government continues to fail to deliver, a frustrated population can easily be called to demonstrate, picket or whatever. This will affect both supporters of the political divide.

I concur maandamano is not a sustainable solution to address government incompetence or failures. The opposition should instead focus on building a strong, viable alternative that can offer a different vision and a better approach to governance, including identifying and grooming charismatic and competent leaders, developing policies and programs that address citizens’ needs, and maintaining checks and balances on the government’s actions. This can be done through robust and independent media, civil society organizations, and other non-partisan actors, and promoting civic education and creating opportunities for citizen participation in decision-making processes.

Well put; an opposition that focuses on the future rather than the past.
