I don’t get it
My understanding of this situation …
During the Great Lakes Conflicts, there were mass movements of border communities from both Rwanda and the DRC …
The Rwandese speaking communities in DRC are normally referred to as the Banyamulenge…
They have 3 broad alliances …
-
those who are sick of conflict and want their own nation ( …like the Kurds in Turkey , Syria and Iraq…)
-
those who are happy to be part of DRC.
-
those in exile who are unhappy with the Kigali Regime ( …former Intarahamwe Militia … )
Throw into the mix agitators and opportunists (… agents of western and eastern powers , warlords , multinationals looking for quick profits…) and you have an explosive situation…
As a former refugee himself ( …he was raised and educated in Uganda … ) , I believe Gen: Paul Kagame has the right idea when he says the solutions are not in Paris or Brussels but with all concerned ( including DRC and Rwanda) sitting around a table and finding lasting solutions…
In the interim , cross border banditry and insecurities must be interdicted and contained by military action , sad as it is …
But as long as some entities a benefiting from this mayhem ( minerals , diamonds , oil ) , there is no interest in a real peace …
