Not really an argument per se more of a healthy debate. I was discussing devolution with a friend. The discussion was motivated by the recent unsuccessful impeachment of the Nyeri Governor. My colleague was of the opinion that Gachagua’s impeachment should have been upheld. He was of the opinion that Nyeri has lagged behind in development in comparison to a county like Machakos. I indicated that it was unfair to compare Nyeri and Machakos as the two counties are worlds apart in terms of development indicators. He disagreed and said that the two counties shared more similarities than differences. We went down to specifics and looked at such things as literacy level, access to health, rural electrification etc. That is when I said, Nyeri grows coffee and Machakos doesn’t. He assured me there is coffee in Machakos. I stood my ground and we had to seek a third opinion from the internet. It turns out there is coffee in Machakos o_O I was very shocked. I didn’t know this I had to download documents from the Machakos County website just to confirm. That is how I was beaten and realized I need to travel some more
Lots of coffee was grown in Mua Hills and Iveti hills. Unfortunately Mua has all but uprooted its coffee and people are selling vuloti. Most of the coffee is now to be found on iveti hills, with the factory at a place called Mungala
Really? Do you have a citation because the last time I watched news, the good people of Nyeri were diversifying to Macadamia and cutting down coffee trees.
i don’t know about production per acre but i know maize has got very little profit, 10-20 k per acre and is affected by so many diseases and weather ( it requires sufficient rainfall) wheat on the other hand takes less time to mature and requires less rainfall. coffee prices are improving so that explains the interest/uptake by farmers
