Sometimes middlemen take a lot of baggage from farmers when they buy produce directly from the farm. The farmer will not incur costs of transportation, bribing at police road blocks, weigh bridge, paying for vehicle parking, paying the county government where the maize is coming from plus where it is being sold-Nairobi, paying guys to offload, looking for buyers, paying for security before selling, paying security to take him to the bank after selling in Nairobi, sleeping with cheap whores after selling in Nairobi, betting with some of the money, drinking cheap liquor after selling, and so on and so forth!!
