Nobody will ever take local sports seriously until they become financially viable. Even in athletics, our people only compete seriously because international audiences pay well. Ile siku football ama basketball league ya Kenya itakuwa na serious money ndio watu watajitokeza. The average Kenyan is still unwilling to pay for sports because of his or her little disposable income.
Why is the soccer league in Tanzania a real thing ? . TZ is poorer than Kenya.
How is the KBL going?
Kenya has a lot of basketball talent that went to waste due to guess what… Mismanagement.
I’m not sure if it’s still the same case for the national team but it was a while back. The national team was chosen on kujuana and so the team was preset no matter form or previous game performance.
I started playing basketball in Class 8. Started watching Kenyan league games with cousins.
Played all through high school. When I was in uni these guys were still playing, same unit, nothing new.
Even the best teams in the world don’t go 3-4 years with absolute no change. No matter how good you were wewe cheza tu club wachana na national team.
Keep in mind the team was horrible. Kenya hadn’t played any meaningful tournament for years.
Kama imechange then performance yetu is wanting then. Haven’t heard any significant new.
League ya madame ni interesting though. Playoffs zao huwa noma.
Cricket became big, died almost, back up again. Basketball still in the same state.

I love football too. I wish we had better facilities and most importantly good management. Basic ones. Like a ‘City Stadium’-esque stadium in half of the counties.
Then teams be like really professional then sponsors wanajitokeza.
