I plan to move to Ukunda by end of next month.
Kuna k-talker anaishi huko and they know the place? Which is the best place to live huko security wise, maji na warembo?
Living in Diani is quite affordable. As the guy above said, Darad ama Kona ya Musa are decent locations, it will depend of course on where you’ll be working and how close you want to be. I can recommend Neema House as an affordable & decent place to stay. Hapo junction ya juu(by the Equity bank) kuna vibandaski zote, you can eat very well for cheap.
Diani is a tourist town, things were bad during Covid but zime improve. Tandoori na Manyatta are the local hotspots za sherehe, huezi kosa mali safi. Manyatta is decent, you start there and end your night at Tandoori. Mapoko wote huwa Tandoori sana sana. Tandoori has a road facing area and a very modern night club huko nyuma. If you’re fancy, Havana usually huwa na band on saturday evenings. The Diani area itself huwa quite dead by 9 pmish tho, it’s a common thing for these places to end their days when the sun goes down.
There’s two types of women there, locals and those who came there to work from upcountry. Ukiamua ku sample warembo, try and be careful when dealing with locals yaani wadigo ama waswahili. Kuna wale wamesoma wako na jobs si wabaya but then there’s the idlers that live off tourism indirectly. Heri tu upambane na watu wametoka mbali. Kuna pia wale who are descendants of those who moved to Diani for work, wabara but they grew up in Diani, they’re decent and huwa wamechanuka kiasi. Women in Diani are fairly easygoing, life is cheaper there and sherehe iko limited so you don’t have to do much to impress. Kama utakuwa job kwa hoteli, young female staff wamekuja job utakula vizuri sana, but ujue utakuwa unashare na ma cooks, waiters na office guys.
You’ll really like the beaches btw. Beaches in Diani are cleaner and have less foot traffic. You can generally access the coast line from multiple points like 40 Thieves. Sio lazima uingie hoteli kubwa to enjoy the beach. Kuna pia Congo River, most folks take their kids there on Sundays. It is next to a mosque and they usually ask for a small fee to access it, lipa tu as they use it to keep the area clean and accessible. Ukipata ka dem, unabuy William Lawson na tumblers na unakapeleka Congo River, vitu utapewa tu.
