The local government is oiling it’s machinery.
Mombasa county has land rate defaults of 10 billion. I’m liking how this is going because this is a huge cash cow for local governments. In the future, we will not hear of people owning large tracts of idle land…Akina Waitiki and such. Take the land and subdivide it to squatters. Iwe funzo kwa wote.
This Kenya!!!they will plant trees and hay and the land wont be idle anymore…but we now better.
Being idle I mean not income generating. Land rates are not cheap, so if that land is not giving you enough income to pay rates, only reasonable thing is to default or sell the land. Trees my friend, are very profitable when sold.
Is there a formula to calculate land rates?
can counties pass laws as to what parcels should pay and how much to be paid?
The laws already exist.
There is no specific formula but location and use for the land determines what the land rates will be.
kabogo ni maskio analalia tu kiambu… land was subdivided long ago into residential plots but he gets rates of agricultural land…he can get billions in kiambu for the county but hajaamka. Waititu anakam
