hippos have no history of human conflict unless you are along its path or if it feels threatened. if KWS kill a human killer lion , it makes sense because they will do it again once they taste human flesh. On the other side hippos don’t eat human meat and cannot kill again once they do it. Just when threatened or stressed . Killing it was so petty and just a PR .

This story was breaking news hapa UK over the weekend and the claim is that the recent rains have caused the level of water in the lake plus surrounding rivers to rise meaning that the hippos are having to encroach on local farms and hotel grounds to feed.

Senseless! What was the KWS reasoning (and I’m using this term loosely because someone is definitely not using their brains)? The tourist traveled thousands of kms for the perfect selfie, an innocent hippo victoriously defends its territory but KWS hunts it down and kills it! Only in a shithole country! I feel sorry for the family that lost their loved one, but KWS definitely overreacted and have sent the wrong message to tourists. Animals need the respect and the space they deserve. Hippos are known to viciously defend their turf; crocodiles respect them. On short sprints they can outrun humans. It’s not like the hippo followed the guy and killed him in his hotel room.
What will KWS do to their staff who caused the death of 10 rhinos??

It does look senseless but I doubt KWS could have killed him for that reason alone. He may be a young male high on testosterone or one rejected from the pack with anger issues. Makes it likely that he will attack and kill again.
