This being Kenya, one would expect the phones to be simply taken away from the students and sold by the teachers…not be destroyed

The phones should be confiscated and then handed over to the parents. This is a huge waste of resources/money. You don’t destroy 20k just like that.

If you ban cars from entering/parking in a certain area you don’t destroy the cars that access that area. You remove/tow the vehicles and fine the drivers.

Kila shule ikona simu mingi sana. I don’t think you have interacted with teenagers. Ukiwakataza wanaweka extra effort toward what is banned.
Wengi ujue kupata simu ni ngumu esp fron parents. Most won’t risk getting caught with one. Kuvunja iko sawa i love it. Kuwawekea ati hadi end of term will encourage them to keep bringing them coz wanajua the worse that will happen ni kuchukuliwa na kuwekwa na mode hadi end of term
These kids don’t care. If kids risk suspension and expulsion unadhani they care about simu ya 7k.

Was about to mention that…hata ma student. Wakisha jua ni mwalimu fulani anaziwekanga they can break in or sneak in to ransack the office and steal them. Better zivunjwe…ingekuwa mimi kwanza unaita assembly then inavunjiwa huko mbele 
Africa imejaa watu wajinga sana. Hata hapa kwa hii Kijiji yetu wajinga wanashinda wasee wako na akili. By 1849, watu walikuwa wanatumia simu but bonobos in 2024 still feel that school kids shouldn’t have phones. Hao watoto are competing with kids in other parts of the world with access to phones, computers and internet 24 hours. If there ever was a compelling reason as to why kids shouldn’t have phones, why not have an arrangement where kids can enjoy their phones in a controlled environment? Say kama jioni wakienda games.

Simu imefanya nini ndio ivunjwe? Punish the student not destroy the phone. Destroying 1 phone is wiping 20,000 from the economy, a thousand phones destroyed is removing Ksh 20,000,000 from kenyans wealth.
Are you suggesting that phones are unique to Africa ama unasema Snapchat, Instagram et al are unique to Kenyan school kids?
