His wife found her body in the bedroom and a suicide note at their lavish Karen home. We underrate peace of mind.
The Kenyatta family is mourning the loss of William Gakuo, the younger brother of former First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and brother-in-law to former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Gakuo, who was 48, passed away on November 6 at his home in Karen, Nairobi. Authorities reported that he died by suicide, with his wife, Sheila Wanjiku Mwangi, discovering him and a suicide note in the corridor leading to his bedroom.
The incident is currently under investigation.
Gakuo will be cremated on November 12 at the Hindu Crematorium in Kariokor, Nairobi, according to the family’s statement. He is remembered as a cherished brother to Gabriela, Maina, Christine, and Margaret Kenyatta.
Born in Kangema, Murang’a County, he was the son of Dr. Ephantus Njuguna Gakuo, a former director of the Kenya Railways Corporation, and Magdalena Njuguna, his German mother.
Dr. Njuguna, an economics PhD graduate from Freiberg University in Germany, became the first African managing director of Kenya Railways in 1964 and served until 1976.
His influence in the Kenyatta family extended to fostering the relationship between Uhuru and Margaret Kenyatta.
