This year Oranges have been juicy and sweet. Unlike previous seasons even the greenest of them all is still sweet. Let me not start on the Tangerines. Who knows where they are coming from? I have been told Tz, Uganda even Israel. Ukweli ni upi? I’d like to grow a tree.

there are some locally (EAST African) grown.
Citrus plants have been a disappointment for me unlike mangoes and avocados…
You can get citrus seedlings at the nurseries between kenol and tana bridge…

If I buy the said seedlings and I nature them to maturity will they produce as good a fruit as what is in the market currently?
I think the opposite is happening- fruits are waterly and not sweet. This is attributed to the current rains.

Next time tembea an Agricultural show you’ll learnt alot about the varieties and how best to cultivate.You may have the perfect seedling but you dont cultivate it properly.
I know citrus fruits do well and are sweeter when grown in dry areas with high temperatures. @aviator

As @gashwin has said, you need to learn/ sharpen your knowledge on grafting. What actually matters here is the scion, which should be carefully selected depending on your biases. The root stock, you can raise yourself. So, basically you should identity sources of the succulent fruits you ate for the scions. A good place to start should be an Agricultural Training Centre near you and then a Commercial nursery near you. KALRO formerly KARI can also provide you with very useful information on the same.

You’re talking about crop husbandry. It makes a big difference towards the final product on palate.
