KQ: Qatar airways vs temasek offer

As usual, Kenyans being part of the bonobo specie are not properly interrogating who among the 2 firms best serves the country.

I see lazy arguments that it’s Qatar.

Qatar is a direct competitor to kq, will be conflicted as they already have commitments in the region like in Rwanda etc. So them taking kq will be to enhance Qatar airways by using kq as a domestic feeder just like France-KLM deal that never added any value to KQ.

Furthermore, it’s always said Qatar is a sponsor of terror and extremism through charities, investments, mosques, Islamic foundations etc. Her taking over kq may endanger our country by promoting such activities.

Temasek is the best deal for KQ, the issue of 90% takeover can be negotiated to in order to safeguard national interests. Probably they aimed for 90 so as to edge out state capture which as the main problem at KQ. Fat bonobos have captured every aspect of kq ecosystem for their own selfish gains. They are so bonobo that they can’t see they will go home if the airline collapsed. They hope bailouts will continue to keep them in business.

Temasek being a global investment company would bring in a breath of fresh air as they are not conflicted. Having been in avtiation field , part of the issues KQ had with KLM was that:

  • KLM was charging KQ very high for management and technical services
  • KLM was still a competitor of KQ especially in Africa, while originally it was envisaged that they would surrender most African routes to KQ
  • KLM had unfavourable connections for KQ flights leading to long layovers

That said, Tamasek have an uphill task as aviation industry is a high investement - low return setup, not to mention they are getting into a firm that is plagued by governance issues and personal conflicts, poor ‘home ground’ infrastructure and stiff regional competition from Ethiopia and Rwanda.

Being from Singapore, possibly we can get some of their discipline and vision!
