President Uhuru Kenyatta said on Friday that the government would expand the Athi River-Machakos Road, lay a high-speed rail line connecting it to Nairobi and build a one-stop shop in Machakos for provision of e-government services.

The foundation is meant to make it easier for investors to access the proposed Machakos city and create an enabling environment for investment by reducing the cost of setting up and doing business in the proposed 2,200-acre urban development.

The master plan for the ambitious metropolis features special economic zones, research and learning institutions, golf and leisure parks, high-density housing complexes and shopping malls.

“We will soon be tendering for the dualling of Mombasa highway from Athi River all the way to Konza and Machakos so as to speed up transportation of goods and people between Nairobi and Machakos,” Mr Kenyatta said at the launch of the new Machakos city.

“We are also planning to expand the railway line for passengers all the way to Machakos.”

And this was written in 2013.
@spear, Sir! The concrete and glass jungle is fodder for the billionaires. The roads and the railways is what the peasants are looking up for. When should we expect the works for dualling the Athi River-Machakos turn-off to begin?
You are now as respectable as @Meria Mata in this village, trust me! :D:D:D

Huu bado ni filamu vya 3D imagery. mlisema ni visheni 2030 lakini kwa maoni yangu itakuwa visheni 3020. Kenya na ufisadi najua wataiba hela zote kutoka hapo.

I had almost given up on Konza City but finally things are moving. Noble project, worst execution ever. Bitange Ndemo rushed this project to the media without doing the simple basics first. It took a year to set up Konza Authority, 2 years haggling over title deeds and arguments of which county its in, 2 years to start getting the basic infrastructure to Konza. In between are endless interviews, press conference and articles. The management team and board have been replaced twice. If someone is researching on putting up a city please learn from Konza mistakes.

Now Ketraco has built a 60MW sub-station at Konza that will sort 1 Phase power needs and can be upgraded in the future. The power lines have been done around Konza by Kenya Power. CS Wamalwa launched Thwake Dam at the confluence of Thwake and Athi Rivers, dubbed the largest water project in the semi-arid area, upon completion, it is expected to supply water to over one million residents of Konza, Machakos, Makueni and Kitui counties as well as generate 20 megawatts of electricity to power Konza Tech City in Makueni County. The internal roads of Konza are been made. Athi River to Machakos turnoff road dualing procurement is complete, it will cost Kshs 8 Billion. Ministry is just awaiting a letter of no objection from World bank for it to start. Once we have 5 to 10 projects ongoing at Konza then it will finally draw in the investors. Once Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Kaist) start building the university then all system go.

Now that is something. The general region will forever be different. And if, like you say, about or more than 5 projects take off simultaneously, the ripple effects will be felt by even us peasants!
And then my pet project, the upgrading of the entire Mombasa Road from Mombasa to at least Nairobi, will be about 20 km done for starters!

With Konza City you cross your fingers and toes. It’s a series of bad luck, poor planning and execution. Until 2 years ago the legislation for Konza Authority hadn’t been done yet they needed funding. So government was giving it a small budget then ministries would do the work on their behalf.
