When you confront people hoping you are wrong and want them to explain it away, and reassure you, they will manipulate you and gas light you and explain it all away. When you find out what the play is, shut the fuck up and make an exit plan.
Con artists use this very effectively. When a scammer cons you, and then you call them back to ask for an explanation, they know you are a fool and opening yourself up for scamming.
