Kisii Women MP Dorice Donya Toto caused a stir in Parliament on 3 May 2023 when she revealed that she was married as a virgin.
Madam Dorice was speaking during her tribute to Mama Agnes Moraa, the mother of Nyamira County Women’s Representative Jerusha Momanyi.
Donya said she met Mama Agnes when she was a radio presenter and was always advised by her to counsel young girls on the importance of waiting until marriage before engaging in sexual activities.

According to Donya, Mama Agnes was a proponent of marriage and had always encouraged young people to marry at the right age and as virgins.
“Mama Agnes was an advocate of marriage. You get married at the right age and as a virgin,” she said.
Donya explained that Mama Agnes was at the forefront of the fight against teenage pregnancy in her community.
In her speech, Donya proudly declared that she had followed Mama Agnes’ advice and got married as a virgin.
She went as far as to promise that her two daughters would also marry virgins as a tribute to Mama Agnes’ teachings.
Jerusha Momanyi also spoke during the tribute, saying that her mother had inspired many women in the Gusii community to pursue their dreams and venture into business.

She added that Mama Moraa’s legacy would continue to inspire future generations.
Despite the laughter from her colleagues, Donya’s message was clear – Mama Agnes had been a great influence in her life and had taught her valuable lessons that she would pass on to her children.
“Her dream was for me to be in a position of leadership and influence change in society. I am proud to say that her dream has come true as I serve as Nyamira County Women’s Representative,” she said.
