I graduated with a 2nd lower degree about 11 years ago… my provisional transcripts showed I had scored 59.3points and the recommendation was “to graduate with a second class honours lower division” . I later picked my degree cert and it read the same.
Now 11 years later today when a job requirement came up for me to provide original transcripts… I traveĺed to Egerton njoro to pick them. Lo and behold, the original transcripts read I have a 2nd honours upper division with 60.0 points.
Do you guys think it will be possible for the university to change my degree to 2nd upper. My department has directed me to DVC, A.Affairs. I am currently drafting a letter to that effect and hoping for best.
Can anyone provide any input on this please…

Your issue is? 59.3 adjusted upwards to 60.0? It’s normal for such adjustments to happen. I know of some. And since 60.0 is a 2nd upper, hapo ndio iliwekwa.
The issue ni… degree yenye niko nayo ni “2nd class honours lower division”.
Nataka ikue “2nd class honours upper division” juu that is what the original transcripts read.
By the time you get thatcert the job openning will be long gone. Hizo honours are important in securing scholarships only. Chances are nobody in the interview panel will notice that. But have the transcprit copies certified by registrar. Grades are tweaked prior to graduation to make the statistics look sexy. A buddy in undergrad was downgraded from first class to second upper.
enda upewe an updated degree reading 2nd upper. Issue inakaa you have papers reading 2nd lower. If it’s true you have a 2nd upper, ni kiprint kitu noting that.
I was also downgraded just days to graduation and trying to follow up the nigger who was attending to me was very rude. I hope life doesn’t put him in a position where he is at my mercy.

You are wrong there. Si kuprint tu. That shiet is heavily controlled, signed by the VC and rgistrar. It must be accompanied by minutes of a senate meeting.

I had a second lower (chang’aa ya njokerio ni saitan!) yet I got a partial scholarship to the US, taken contracts with UN, worked for an NGO in south africa with my transcripts being analuzed and passed by south africa quality assurance govt body that says your degree tosha and meets SA standards. Once you have a degree from there you body of work sells you.
I don’t take graduates from Egerton serious.Hiyo na Moi.They are institutions of higher learning for people from a particular community.Both staff and student.Meetings held in mothertongue,watu wakiwa lecture room mothertongue…I visited someone there in my campus days and was terribly bored.
Yes. Remember they still have your exam scripts and CAT marks that can be manipulated. They will claim it is the transcript that is wrong and that the degree cert is thefinal true copy. A clerk will be fired for an error in printing your cert. Ongea nao kwa upole. Ofcourse you will be tossed around to your dean, the different dept chairs, exam office back to registrar, DVC (AA) etc. Komboa keja njokerio for tha, egerton is a shithole uni when it come to administrative and managerial issues. I taught a course huko in 2016 sijalipwa bado, luckily I did itfor the sake of it, kama ingekua ya kunukisha kitunguu ningekua nimeua mtu, everybody is waiting for my file from somebody.
During our time we had more than 5 1st class.Booklet ikikuja only 2 guys were listed under the 1st class category.I had planned to study masters immediately.Upon the rude shock,hadi wa leo sijawahi ifanya
70-100 = first class
60-69 = Second class upper division
50-59 = second class lower division
40-49 = pass
1-39 = fail…do people really get to this level?
