Just read an article about a flopped 61MW wind farm huko kinangop because the locals, probably politically charged, frustrated the process. Another one is slated to be set up in Meru and KENGEN is kazaring their meffi it doesn’t go under too.
My question is, are the locals greedy and are asking for exorbitant prices through middlemen political players, not seeing the bigfer picture or is it that they are actually being shafted on the offer price for their land.
Ata wewe si unajua kila kitu in kenya is always politically motivated. But in the end only the big fish hufaidika
It’s Fcuking amazing how we behave today, them kesho we will be complaining about high level of unemployment.
Toooo muuuch freeeeeedom. A national development project is halted …siasa mbaya maisha mbaya. …MO1 said it. Local leaders NOT ACTIVIST should negotiate with the government , sio upusi, ati ooh hamtapate kuza tena sababu ya the noise from the windmills…Wakameat go talk to your ppls
That is my area. I wish they came to my place I would have signed the deal faster faster.
The issue is just incitement by local politicians.
@aviator kwanza ask about the compensation rates…they set it up at my cucus & villagers chopped off the mast… My cousin was being hoved off 4 acres whereby he couldnt build even a bungalow…if you want more details, inbox me…
Am following this story keenly as I need to understand the intrigues that took place.
Can you kindly tell us what happened in a coherent manner.
wajua kuna the other side of the story pia… can u imagine grandparents wako wana ambiwa wa ame ancestral land yao waende kuingine na hawaku kua wanata hio compensation hata! some things cant be bought with money… plus labda wana lipwa pesa kidogo alafu obviously hawataona manufaa ya hio project…
uliza watu wa kerio valley pahali fluorspar mining company iko, wata kuambia wame kua kwa corridors of justice since the inception of civilization this is because the big companies tend to marginalize this village dwellers while giving them a raw deal every time
I thought it is only in one part of Kenya where people do not like ‘development’?
Many people were relocated from Ndakaini in the 90’s to pave way for the dam with minimal fuss.
@coldpilsner that is what I’m asking. Saa zingine ukisema ancestral land I can say kila mtu has a price. Wangeambiwa Kuna mafuta hapo, utaona hao ancestors watasaulika pap! Watu si wameuza land for SGR na pesa wakakula na hiyo story ni old news Juu wamefilisika.
Why not give them real shares in the project. That way they can still own the land and be assured of returns for as long as the generators produce power. The same way a company would decide to put up a billboard in your plot.
I partly agree, it’s sad to see the investor pack and go lakini hii argument ya ati villages hawaoni the big picture pia ni wrong, for them their land is the biggest picture there ever can be
The day you deal with those Gichagi folks, illiteracy and hearsay the same day you will understand why they are against the project especially the old
Huyo cousin wako anaitwa nani? Kwetu ni kîbúyú.
