Gwata Dai is a Kikuyu movement that advocates for female genital mutilation. It is allegedely being pushed forth by Kikuyu musicians like Muigai wa Njoroge, a former Mungiki leader and others including the deceased who may have sought the services of mudu mugo and stopped treatment. Mighty Salim appeared sickly about 4 years ago but suddenly made a comeback looking a bit healthy and strong. So many young kikuyu men/women have joined this movement. This is a resurgence of something bigger than the Mungiki sect, a rejuvenation of the Kikuyu culture, as they say.
