Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has promised to appoint his nemesis Boni Khalwale as the county coordinator for bullfighting.
Oparanya, who was sure of defeating Khalwale in the gubernatorial race said he would not leave Khalwale, a man with three wives, to languish in poverty.
“I know Khalwale cannot win the gubernatorial seat. I have already allocated him a slot in my administration. He will serve as the coordinator for bullfighters,” Oparanya said.
He claimed that he was thinking of offering the outgoing senator a managerial position, but since he lacks managerial skills and experience, he opted to instead make him the bullfighting coordinator since the he clearly enjoys the sport.
“I will ensure he has an office at Malinya in Ikolomani where he constructed a bullfighting stadium,” the governor added.
“I will make him the county bullfighting coordinator to reward his efforts towards bullfighting activities in Kakamega. It is shocking that he relocated a primary school from a five-acre land to an acre to create space for bulls to fight in Malinya,” Oparanya said as he campaigned in Lugari before the elections.
The governor laughed off claims by Khalwale that he (Oparanya) is from the Iteso community in Busia County.
He told off Khalwale, saying he should stop being petty and focus on development agenda rather than promoting tribalism.
“I am two years older than Khalwale. When was he supervising my mother having an affair with that Teso man he is claiming,” he said.
Oparanya had exuded confidence of retaining his seat during the General Election with a larger margin.
“Everybody will be looking at the total votes I get in my stronghold constituencies; Likuyani and Butere, before even bothering about the others.
Do not shame me on August 8, because this will be my last term as a governor in office,” Oparanya had pleaded with the voters before the recently-concluded elections.
