The mainstream view is that the Quran “accepts” (and recognizes) the institution of slavery but it does NOT promote slavery. It was a common practice in pre-islamic society. However, the word ‘abd’ (slave) is rarely used in Quran, instead being replaced by periphrasis such as “ma malakat aymanukum” (“that which your right hands own”). However the meaning and translation of this term has also been disputed. W.G. Clarence-Smith has highlighted the point of view of Ghulam Ahmed Pervez on this issue, who argued that the term is used in the past-tense in the Quran, thus signalling only those individuals who were already enslaved at the dawn of Islam.
In fact, freeing a slave is considered as a great virtue and is promoted in many hadises. One of the most revered figures in Islam, Bilal, was an ethiopian slave. At a generous estimate, the entire population of the planet until the 1600s was less than one billion. Perhaps as low as 800 million. India and China always seem to have been among the most populous countries on earth.
world’s population did not really steadily increase until the 1800s, when things like infant mortality started to decrease. If hundreds of millions of African slaves were taken to the Americas, and had children, it would seem to follow that would be many more hundreds of millions of black people in America today.
50 million (which was mentioned here) seems like a more reasonable estimate of the population of Sub-Saharan Africa, with maybe 10-20 million taken as slaves, Which is still too many.
People generally seem to be far to willing to throw around figures like ‘hundreds of millions’ when referring to anything about the pre-modern period, without realizing how much smaller the population actually was.

In the U.S., there was also a preoccupation with female slaves, for slavery was passed on the mother’s side, which allowed slave owners to populate their own plantations. Lynching is primarily what was used to keep black men and white women from producing free brown babies. Males were favored in the Caribbean, because the laws were different there and because of the very hard work it took to cultivate sugar crops.

Much of Islam’s teachings specifically speak against the idea of slavery and historically, many of the Islamic figures who played an important role in the history of the religion were people who freed slaves and spoke against it. The Quran also tells many stories of people freeing slaves, and some very important people in the history that promoted it were of African decent, some of which were former slaves. The middle east has had a lot of issues and still does, but it’s Islam that has made it so much better, and many of the corruption that still happens goes against the teachings of Islam. Being a muslim who grown up in a muslim country, we were not only educated through the Quran, but our own schools specifically teach us about the injustice of slavery and talk about the incredible Islamic figures who were black, such as Bilal, who was not only a black supporter of Islam, but was a former slave. There are other examples however none are as good at illustrating Islam’s disapproval with slavery like this one. This man was born as a slave to an enemy of Islam and eventually escaped this situation, he ended up as a devout Muslim, very trusted and respected by the prophet of Islam himself, who was not even black. You can read all about him, but if you’re skeptical of Islam you can simply read reliable HISTORIC texts rather than RELIGIOUS ones. You should not speak against Islam because they were freeing black slaves and promoting the treating of black people equally before anyone else was really doing it.

To be honest, fomenting war to take slaves/captives was not unique to the Islamic world. The Aztecs and other indigenous peoples of the Americas did that sort of thing as well.
They became quite notorious for waging war on neighbouring tribes to capture people, usually for the purpose of sacrificing them to their gods.
Europeans and some central Asian peoples weren’t above it either, and I sorry to offend anyone here but even some Africans were occasionally complicit in selling other Africans to slavers. Sometimes with was tied up with inter-tribal conflicts.
