Kesho Ni December 12. In My Younger Years Party Ilikwa Inaanza Leo

Growing up in the 1980s I think we had the best childhood. Very few electronics, no internet just VOK radio and VOK TV for the middle class.

I am 44, I can relate to everything you’ve posted. Mbona sikumbuki coin ya 2 bob?
Village dances used to start on Jamhuri day. Mnapanga, machali wanachanga pesa for eveready dry cells plus midnight snacks (chai Na mandazi). An even year like this in Bukusuland meant the boys circumcised in August are coming out of seclusion (kutoka jandoni) in Dec so parties were all over. And the drama at the parties…kupeana compacts kwa dance floor in a tiny Simba. Wazees are too drunk from the free busaa all over so sneaking out the girls to the dances was not a challenge.
Nothing beats being a teenager in Western Kenya during the late 80s/early 90s.

That was common in the 70s. Meant 1 bob. It is now a collector’s item
