Kenyas 1st opinion poll (TBT)

Kenya’s first opinion polls were conducted in 1960 by MARCO (Market research company of Africa ) under the direction of Dr Wilson.

During the polls a comprehensive sample of Africans were asked the question:

“Who do you think is the most outstanding African leader in Kenya today.”

The first poll results released in June 1960 showed Mboya as the the most outstanding African leader at 41% followed by Mzee Kenyatta at 24% Kiano at 11% Ngala at 7% Odinga at 3% and Gichuru at 2%.

The second poll results released in sept 1960 ,Mboya was again ahead at 42% ,Mzee Kenyatta at 32% Ngala 11% Gichuru 3% and both Odinga and Kiano at 2%.

The third poll results released in January 1961 ,Mzee Jomo Kenyatta was ahead at 33% followed by Mboya at 28% Both Ngala and Odinga at 7% Gichuru at 6% and Kiano at 4%
