A 25-year-old woman was Tuesday charged in a Kitui court with selling her three-day-old infant for Sh10,000.
Sarahi Kwamboka was arraigned before Kitui resident magistrate Johnstone Munguti facing child trafficking charges.
The suspect, a single mother of three, was charged alongside the child alleged buyer, Bernadette Musanya.

Ann Wangui, the woman who was arrested whilst attempting to sell her three weeks old baby for Sh1,200 at Nakuru Level Five Hospital, has been arraigned in court.

Kenya is leading in child trafficking in the region with babies who are days to be born being booked by illegal dealers while others who are days old are sold for as little as Sh2,000, a new study has shown.

A report released by Cradle Children Foundation indicates that the price may change once the baby is delivered and this depends on the race and gender.
