The video has been widely shared — and celebrated — on social media: a lone Black woman sits in the street to protest police violence as another Black woman stands up to police who are closing in.
“How you doing, sis? You OK? What’s up? Can I sit with you?” Phoenix Robles, the 36-year-old activist, photographer and social worker can be heard asking as she films the situation and walks toward the peaceful protestor, identified in photos as Dorcas Monari. “We’re having a mental health crisis,” she tells officers, pleading with them not to make any decisions in haste. “I want to talk to her.” When Robles asks Monari why she is sitting in the road not far from the police station — in Brooklyn Center, Minn., where Daunte Wright was fatally shot during a traffic stop earlier this month and just miles away from where Derek Chauvin’s trial in the shooting death of George Floyd was
Aarrrggh. I feel so bad for her and triggered by this article. It’s sad that it came to this. I think it’s important that we diasporans learn to pick our struggles in order to protect our mental health during this crazy racial upheaval. Sometimes that means tuning out the media circus and focusing on the positive side of life.
My take on this is that if you cannot speak “English of the nose” your protest is reduced/labeled as someone having mental health issues. People should know their lanes
She truly went bonkers, this is sad. Why get involved and allow BLM issues to get to her? She should focus on other life important issues and positivity, and keep out of Black Americans shenanigans. All this hate and anger towards white cops is just not worth it. I would rather keep my sanity.
Its not bonkers. It an anxiety attack and its a medical episode. She cant control it, but needs medical intervention. Same way someone doesnt give themselves seizures and they cant be cured by focusing on positive things. That why theres medical personnel on the ground.
Your ignorance is really showing, african americans are my lane, all the freedoms you enjoy in america as a black person is because of them. Spare us your selfish, self-centred attitude and im not your friend; dont call me that
