Kenyan farmer

Sometimes last year there was this debate hapa why maize farmers should take the government offered price of 2300 per bag…many were wondering why maize from Tanzania and Uganda are cheaper yet imported
Same case is happening to eggs farmers.
Well…in today’s bandit economy being overseen by Uhuru Muigai the farmers are hugely disadvantaged… Thanks to cartels that want to import and other cartels supplying overpriced fertilizer
Imagine
While a Kenyan farmer pays as high as Sh3,800 for a 50kg bag of DAP fertiliser

UK and Scotland pays Sh2,400
Tanzania: Sh2,400
India: Sh2,045
Pakistan: Sh2,150
Ethiopia: Sh2,000

Fertilizer cartel is so powerful that dominant player, which has been selling fertiliser in Ethiopia at Sh2,000 per 50kg bag, is the Moroccan Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP), a government-owned monopoly on phosphate mining, and whose entry into the Ethiopian and Tanzanian markets led to drastic reduction of DAP prices.
But in Kenya, where it had started to penetrate the market, OCP has been blocked from supplying fertiliser after its products were detained in Mombasa.

To make matters worse a maize farmer has incurred all the farming costs including expensive fertilizer halafu still there is no market for his produce as the government has imported maize at 50% more price than what a farmer is selling…

Delayed pay, costly inputs compel farmers to abandon farming

So what we can do?

Are Tanzania and Ethiopia “free market” economies?
But I have to agree that well connected cartels have captured and are strangleholding the agricultural commodities trading, with the blessings of the avaricious elected officials.

Nothing like free economy… UK is a leading free economy and the price is ksh 2400

Bado utaskia mafala wakisema economy ya Kenya iko chonjo… @spear @FieldMarshal CouchP jubilee mefffffffii

They (Europeans) subsidise their farmers, in Kenya you give grants to the politicians to import vehicle, Priorities…

Where you this whiny in 2011 when a bag of DAP went for sh6,000? Are you aware that NCPB distributed fertilizer at sh1,800 less than a month ago?

Not trying to defend the govt or anything but at least be updated and know the history ndio ujue tumetoka wapi. Give the devil his due. This is the only govt that has been giving farmers fertilizer subsidies, something cartels have been taking advantage of. However, this year wamechezwa

G.o.k needs to massively increase incentives to make agriculture attractive.Machinery needs to be zero rated ,banks forced to have an Agri business wing and lend at least 10% of all loans to farmers and agribusiness based business, government must stop taxing input but tax outputs instead, and the idle land tax should be implemented,to reduce hoarding of land .

Only a revolution can guarantee the above quote not this thieving regime

Bigfire uko na eka 2 pale Naivasha near SGR under some maize… ebu changia @Motokubwa

Weka link ya NCPB selling at 1800…that fertilser was deemed unfit and substandard…
And why would I appreciate government actions regarding past prices. Kwani isn’t that why we pay taxes …
farming and agriculture controls 25% of GDP…it should not be a case of whining when genuine issues are being put forward

This debt laden government is unlikely to give anyone any tax breaks especially after June 2019 when debt repayments start falling due.

A fertilizer factory should be constructed in naivasha, under a PPP agreement instead of giving M7 land , encourage Kenyans to assemble machinery hapa Kenya ,and discourage land fragmentation, tembea kiambu ,kisii, nyamira county’s kupata hata 20 acres to do serious farming is next to impossible,by 2022 Kenyans need to think critically about agriculture.

Only a revolution my fren place mambo imefika no politician apart from stealing has any clue… Angalia county 43 hapa Kiambu, only corruption makes headlines.

Wewe Karoga and some few villagers ndio uko na some ideas… You think these f-uckers care at all place wata wacha Kenya… Ebu show me a f-ucker with a vision

They must start to renegotiate the debt , gathecha has taxes business and Kenyans to a point where producing is producing a diminishing returns scenario, once agriculture is gone, his government will experience an economic meltdown.

Kiambu is a big letdown ,with 99% literacy rate s I wonder why they make such poor choice’s In key leadership position, nyoro deputising waititu is a disaster,5 university s ,5 national school yet it’s reasoning capacity is as poor as zoomalia.

So sad

Gathecha fiscal policy is bad, inaumiza SME Mbaya sana
