The local MCA had also sent his condolences and was trying to reach out to the family to provide further financial assistance towards the funeral.
Opening up on the incident, Wanjiku affirmed that she was alive and well and had not contemplated suicide.
She explained that she had heard of the incident of the woman and did not understand why the villagers concluded that it was her.
“I first heard of the rumour from her sister who called me on Monday between 4 and 5 pm to ask her if I had heard that a woman from the area had drowned her son in the local river before jumping to her death,” she recalled.
She later called her sister soon after seeking to know exactly where the victim hailed from and was informed that it was a member of their family.
The following day, while she was going about her errands, people would run away from her with many saying that she was supposed to be dead.
“Whenever I encounter people in the neighborhood, they eye me suspiciously from head to toe and ask if I am really alive, because they were told I died,” she stated.
On his part, the area chief stated that he had heard of the rumors of the murder-suicide in the area but no official report had been made.

The police officer instructed the journalist to stop recording the events, and instead wait until the court session was over.
The journalist, however, rebuffed the attempts by the officer to block the coverage with the Magistrate adjourning the case soon after.
The suspect appeared in court wearing a swollen face and struggled to see or even follow instructions.
It is alleged the suspect was roughed up by police officers after he tried to resist arrest.
The court ordered the suspect to be taken for psychiatric assessment before being presented in court.
The incident comes just weeks after three Chinese nationals presented themselves at the Mombasa Law Courts fully dressed in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
The magistrate was forced to postpone the hearing after she mistook the suspects for Ministry of Health officials who had come to collect a Covid-19 patient.
