War is not cheap. One F-5 alone needs $5000 for every hour it is flying. Multiply that by 20. You have yet to include logistics for the MRAPs, APCs, tanks, ships, GP vehicles, generators, food for close to 5,000 troops e.t.c Having the west bear the cost was a smart logistical move.
