How did it occur that Kenya Airways was abbreviated KQ and not KA? ‘Q’ humaanisha nini?

Airlines get designated codes by IATA that identifies their operations… tickets, tariffs and others. Ya Kenya Airways happens to be KQA so KQ is part of the code not abbreviation. @bjurmann kuja funza hii watu.

In a nutshell IATA airline codes are usually two or three letter designator or sometimes a number to designate an airline or airport. This mostly is not unique and is meant for pax etc

ICAO three letter airline designator is a complex naming of airlines plus a telephony designator unique to that airline throughout civil aviation in the world…eg

KQA…Kenya(telephony designator)
BAW…Speedbird(British national carrier)
FFW…Swift Tango(for fly540)
XAK…SunExpress(for air Kenya)
MSR…Egyptair
AFR…Air France
EXZ…Twiga

Etc. Carriers with special status eg VIP Like presidents,king or queens can apply for even a two designator.
