Kasongo's New "Tumetenga Na Tutajenga" Campaign Song For 2027

President William Ruto announced that the government has set aside Ksh3 billion for the project, saying, “We are going to build a modern market. One that you have not seen.”

Planned modern developments at Gikomba Market, March 31, 2026.

Photos released by the government have revealed plans for a new modern market at Gikomba, following the overnight demolition of sections of the market after a 30-day eviction notice.
“We must pay attention to the Gikomba market because it is a national market serving a national traders’ network around Kenya,” he added, noting its integral role as a supplier for businesses across the country.

The images show modern two-storey structures with open spaces for stalls, organised layouts and designated parking areas.

The plans depict spacious walkways and bridges for customers to access businesses. A sports pitch is also rendered near the Nairobi River, indicating that some recreational facilities are to be included in the new space.

The demolition by the Nairobi County Government aimed to clear 50 metres from the riverbank, including 30 metres to restore riparian land and reduce flooding and 20 metres for the new market.

Narok Airport Misses Ruto’s March 2026 Deadline as Midnight Passes

President William Ruto broke ground on the Narok airport in May 2025, pledging a full runway, terminal, hangars, and flight school by March 2026 to boost Maasai Mara tourism, create jobs, and ease visitor access. With Sh700 million allocated and construction advancing as of February, no opening, licensing, or flights materialized by the deadline, prompting online jests like ‘complete and ready’ at midnight. Critics shared clips of Ruto’s promise while supporters held out hope, as the project awaits updates amid typical infrastructure delays.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now says he is ready to work with President William Ruto, but under specific conditions.

Speaking on Wednesday afternoon in Nyandarua County, Gachagua said he would work with the Head of State only if the latter stopped interacting with some of his political allies, who he claimed were misleading him.

Addressing mourners during the burial ceremony of the late former Ol Kalou Member of Parliament, David Kiaraho, he urged them to maintain decorum and avoid political chants that could disrupt the event.

The former DP, in particular, warned his supporters against chanting ‘one term’ slogans against President Ruto when he stands to deliver his speech.

“If the president comes on the podium to speak, I do not want to hear you people chanting ‘one term’ because we loved you as the president and we chose you because we loved you and respected you,” Gachagu stated.

“I do not want anybody to shout ‘one-term’ because we are here for a burial, and since the president has come here, he has come in good faith. We can work with you, but the people you walk with are the problem,” he added.

Gachagua noted that Ruto was elected out of goodwill and deserves the opportunity to serve without public hostility, further adding that political differences should not override respect for national leadership.

His remarks have since sparked speculation about a possible political truce between him and his former boss despite a painful fallout.

During his speech, Gachagua strongly criticised the Majority Leader in the National Assembly, Kimani Inchung’wah, of allegedly fuelling violence in the Mt Kenya region.

According to the former DP, the Kikuyu lawmaker was allegedly orchestrating a plot to hire goons to attack his convoy ahead of his trip to the legislator’s constituency.

“I pleaded with you, the president, to tell Kimani Ichung’wah that we are going to the Kikuyu Constituency on Saturday, and he has planned to hire goons to beat people and destroy businesses; tell him to stop it,” Gachagua stated.

Gachagua also called on the President to intervene and resolve the surging cases of drug abuse in Mt Kenya region, noting that despite previous efforts to address the menace, the issue is yet to be fully handled.
