I’m not surprised. Kenya the Republic being celebrated on Jamhuri Day is an idea that is mostly dead(dying).
Our(majority) nationhood is now primarily the tribe.
Those charged with the responsibility of propping the Kenya idea are the ones busy demolishing it.
That was one nation (maybe two) gathering to celebrate the defeat of another. The overiding emotion on that day was “We K/K defeated Raila”.
No matter how much people hated Moi and could not wait to get rid of him, same to Kibaki after the 2007/08 elections, it has never been this bad. People showed up in huge numbers for Jamhuri or Madaraka Day despite their political persuasion. Now’s let watch them defend the indefensible. Aliye na macho haambiwi tazama. The writing is on the wall. There is a huge populace in the country that totally feel disenfranchised.
Kenyatta really needs to use his intelligence service and their gatherings to see how best to steer this country in the next year. Nikubaya.
By the way, did Uhuru say anything important ama his usual “sasa tufanyie wanainchi kazi”? I did not watch news yesterday and did not follow the proceedings.
He read out a plan of action he called ‘The big four’.
It sounded impressive if it is followed through to the letter but this being the same old Kenya, I will remain pessimistic.
Last time jubilee politicians paid and ferried their supporters from their strong holds. It looks like this time they ran out of cash to encourage their ppl to attend the kasarani celebrations.
You people are funny, are you saying that after voting for him TWICE in an year all of a sudden they have just realized he is bad and so are repaying him for this by an empty stadium? Ok, maybe raira will get his feb 2018 election wish at this rate
I agree we are all tired of politics. Jubilee supporters are serious business men and women. The makers and movers of business in kenya and east africa by extension.
But this analogy has loopholes if we remember the looks of the nairobi business community, the demonstrators attacked by bees outside the high court offices.
Jamhuri day is a national Holiday. Everyone knew it was there. So there can’t be a reason enough for not attending.
The same reason why football supporters choose to pay standium fees to watch a match over enjoying the same match from their favorite bar. With ac controlled atmosphere, beer chilled at the right temperature, live playbacks, mega screens and many more extras is the same reason followers choose to seat in sun baked seats to listen to the speeches of the leaders theyin believe in over watching the live broadcast from the comfort of their living rooms.
I am from the school of thought where every leader must command a following. If at any given moment He finds Him/Herself organizing a meeting for His/Her security personnel then He/She has lost political clout.
The fact that after 5 years of being in power and Unye still is struggling with mustering crowds, people don’t believe in His capabilities as a leader say enough about Him.
When a normal citizen has more followers than the powers that be yet He has nothing to offer. Then the powers that be are a mistake.
The president’s following was confirmed and stamped where it counted. At the ballot, TWICE. The rest of the time we do not need to keep following him to prove a point to prophets of doom.
