While Maghufuli is blocking anything that is coming from Kenya, a drunkard has allowed Tanzanians to flood our market with cheap tomatoes and onions. As if that is not enough, farm inputs are heavily taxed in our country as compared to the Maghfuliland. In addition to @spear and @blackguards, these farmers in Mwea were the choir members of Tano Tena song
if the government did a mangufuli on tanzanian produce and created an artificial shortage such that one tomato costs 30/- you would still be here complaining how gava is unable to protect consumers. do you know we are in a common market?.
I now confirm we have trash leaders from MCAs, Governor to the President.
Whats so had to build coolers for this tomato produce since its highly perishable.
I remember french beans had the same issue till HCDA - Horticultural Crops Development Authority constructed coolers for the farmers especially in Mwea.
This stabilized the prices and supply and kicked out the brokers.
Stand on the nearest table and sing Tano tena X5
Lakini next time Wakenya muchague MPs na MCAs wenye wanaweza soma constitution, budget, Government Policies and be able to interpret it. They should be leaders who can be able to benchmark by reading newspapers and journals and conduct research over the internet. After all, Parliament has a library. Hii story ya kusema corruption inamaliza Kenya just won’t cut it. Ati Jubilee trash? Our systems are horrible because Kenyans are trashy enough to chose the leaders we have. Jubilee voters ndio walichagua Obado? Jubilee voters ndio walichagua a drug baron to be a governor? Jubilee voters ndio walichagua Ojaamong? Jubilee leaders ndio waliambia Tinga akubali the new taxation? Nani alichagua Mbadi?
Jana, I watched our parliamenterians singing for close to five minutes…Wakenya musilale, lale lale, wakenya musilale, bado mapambano, wabunge musilale, lale lale, wabunge musilale, bado mapambano… The song was accompanied by whistling -fantastic sounds without instrumentals. Even the speaker was nodding his head to the rhythm. They only lacked a lady who could ululate to make their song a top ten musical hit.
Why were they singing? Simply because a technical loophole in the constitution enabled the tax bill to pass.
Sasa sijui nicheke au nijihurumie. Wacha tu nicheke because I found the debacle quite ironical and satirical. These MPs wanatuambia bado mapambano. Yet they are in parliament where this mapambano should take place. Ati wabunge musilale yet hawa wenyewe wanakubali mtu achukuwe their voting cards. Sasa kama hawawezi and yet wako ndani ya boxing ring ya mapambano, wanataka mapambano gani tena?
Bite a lemon
Diversify…why plant the same plants as your neighbours? And eveybody else in the village?
most tomato varieties grown in kenya have a shelf life of about 21 days if harvested when they show the first race of red.
T
hat sounds smart…but…
Unfortunately where i come from they are harvested when totally “red”…
why now?
wawawa, ati hazard akifunga bao, ushinde bet. unachapwa 20% tax
Naskia Wanyama akifunga hio 20% haukatwi juu already ashalipa tax apa kenya…
People like me who have done tomato farming even before uhuruto can relate to this.
It all boils down to the timing of harvest and when supply outweighs demand the farmers suffer. I have sold that same crate at 250kshs in 2009 and a bucket at 70 Bob.
And there are times when I sold the same crate at 8k and the ndoo at 1500 or 2k
Ati Uhuru ablock? Juu ni yeye alisema iwe unblocked? And after blocking nyanya, what next, wakiblock munablock, alafu wakimaliza kublock, wablock borders ndio watanzania wasiingie nanyi msiende Danganyika? Alafu after kublock borders? Muanze kelele venye Uhuru na serikali yake walifanya ujinga kuleta blockade? Alafu baada ya kuzusha? Muanze kupeana idea venye crossborder trading inaeza leta biashara kenya?
Kelele saa zile wewe na familia yako ndio wanaumia doesn’t give the solution. Hizo crate naona ziko na number plate za gari ya kenya. Clearly its a kenyan whos doing the business, buying from Tz and selling it in kenya. Same way that eggs were being brought in from Ug…makaa from Zoomalia. Shida sio watanzania, ni kwamba kuna wakenya wajanja kukuliko…
but the ninja isn’t interested in the agronomy of tomatoes but to call people names.
So no one is going to set up a production facility to make tomato paste, tomato sauce, etc?
This could easily help and we can cut down the need for imported tomato sauces and such.
Well he needs to know that there are ‘ordinary’ people right now in Kenya ripping millions from agro farming…and they started small with a half an acre at most.
Sure, I am not amused by what’s going on in the country most times but sometimes we fail to use the systems that have been put in place for us to use for our own benefit by the same government due to ignorance.
How many farmers actually seek help from the agricultural officers in their counties? How many farmers actually know that they can get their soil tested and get advice on what to grow on their parcel of land?
How many dairy farmers know that they can make their own silage very easily and get very good yields ?
All this info and help is readily available.
This would help greatly ,but also sensitisation should be there on use of the tomato paste.Frankly speaking I have only used the paste very few times in my life and mind not so long ago.
I have noted in the supermarket ,longlife milk is in abundance unlike some years back meaning the milk processors are taking advantage of the milk availability and hence leading to the cost reduction which inturn trickles to the common chai guzzling citizen.
Clawmatsu ako na fake tomato sauce processing company.
However, manufacturing & processing in Kenya is damn expensive, has high entry barriers and low profit margins
