My all-time favourite city road remains the Southern By-Pass, although it almost killed me. Nilipitia Northern By-Pass juzi nikienda Ruai karibu nilie - slow trucks on the right and careless driving by mats and endless overlapping.

On the SBP, the trucks keep to their lane, and best of all, NO MATATUS or busstops. 4o kms of pure unadulterated bliss!

I broke my car’s virgunity there.

Thika road is the king when it comes to violation of lane displine and the traffic move slow not because of the number of vehicle but because we have vehicles at different speeds at the wrong lanes.

Agreed…driving to Thika is always a helluva process…i curse alot.

I love how the Ngong road has changed. I drive to work in Karen daily along the road via Valley road daily and the roundabout is quite beautiful. What I realizd with these Japanese is that they did a slow but sure job. As one approaches Karen from Racecourse, kazi ya uchimbaji imeanza. Hecko

This road is very well done y the Japanese, compare that to Thika Road which was built by Chinese the other day and is now very hideous…

One project i am sure everyone regrets being awarded to the Nigerians is the Nairobi Eastern Missing Links.This guys have taken forever infact Outering Road is almost done while the bloody Nigerians have not completed Likoni Road Extension which is less than 3 Kilometres ( From Airtel HQ to Enterprise road)
This guys are the slowest of them all .Here is a screen grab from skyscrapercity indicating the timelines and the lengths of the roads to be done some of which are very important to ease of traffic flow.

Outering road is already aging (If that’s the right term to use) Over the weekend I drove from Donholm headed to Jogoo road and already in one of the express lanes the metal rail barrier has already been knocked off aside, sagging and the concrete posts supporting the metal barrier have already been uprooted. Some parts of the road are incomplete yet it looks like the road is now fully operational. Give the time it took to construct the road, this is not acceptable.

That was how the Northern bypass felt right after it opened. The linear settlers are on their way, with kiosks, bodabodas, unauthorized U-turns, garbage heaps and smoke.

the design loads used were uniform for all road sections instead of having a factor of safety where vehicles slow down like at bumps since they exert more pressure on the road than when speeding

JICA had a strict 1.5 billion grant for this 1st Phase which couldn’t also cater for an interchange. However Kura has also tendered for 10 interchange in Nairobi. Junction, Tmall, Nairobi west etc as a separate project.

Corner-Karen-Karen road is fully funded GoK. It was tendered and a Chinese firm won.
