Jubilee cancels primaries in all counties

Jubilee Party primaries in all counties has been cancelled.

Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju said the party will release new dates for the nominations on Saturday.

Mr Tuju had earlier Friday said that after talks with the party leadership, it was agreed that the primaries should be postponed to a later date so as to uphold transparency and fairness.

Nominations were initially called off in Narok, Kajiado, Kericho, Bomet, Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Nakuru, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Embu, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga and Nyeri counties.

The party’s primaries were marked by incidents such as the burning of polling materials, protests by voters in various counties amid the fear of rigging by aspirants and threats to defect to other parties.

In some areas, the 2013 Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission registers were being used, leaving out the names of registered voters, and in others names of aspirants were not on ballot boxes.

That’s the best decision they have made today. Otherwise the whole process was in shambles, it could really have discredited them
