In modern Kenya, all women pay or contribute towards their dowry. The problem is, traditionally, dowry was a token of appreciation. But it has been made into a cash-cow.
Speak for yourself. Nobody in my family was helped with dowry.
They didn’t tell you that’s why. Very prevalent in modern marriages. Just have to dig a little deep and find the girl lent the bf some money beforehand, which he used for dowry. And wedding women ALWAYS contribute.

I am not pushing any narrative but simply stating an observation . The old ways of doing things are long gone. I saw the story, he had another woman. I frankly don’t think he wanted to marry that woman. Probably societal pressures or pressure from the woman.
Dowry is a scam to fleece young boys of their sweat. That money, which should contribute toward building your home, goes to building another’s home and you’ll still need to care for their daughter. Quite unfair if you ask me.
A woman should be a gift. You can give dowry as a token of appreciation as @Simiyu22 said. Because once he is ‘forced’ to pay your dowry, he owns your ass and he can make you a punda wife if he wishes.

Men don’t take care of your daughter, incase you ever have one. Wives are punda wives bcz that’s what the role entails. You can never own a human being no matter how much dowry you pay.
