Wakuu I am happy juu niko in a process of landing a job. Its not what I wanted but at this point I cant choose a job as they say beggars cant be choosers. Its a tutoring job but its not in Nairobi its in Nakuru. I reached out to a friend and he responded to me today inquiring if I might be interested in tutoring diploma students. I have never stood infront of a crowd of people and the day I stood infront of class when I was making a presentation when I was in campus I got frightened by people looking at me ikabidi niseme my ‘colleague will continue from here’.
The units I have been given to tutor are Labour Relations and Introduction to Computer Studies. For Computer Studies I can manage since I have been dealing with computers for sometime and I can refer to the notes I have as we also did it in campus. Shida ni hapo kwa Labour Relations since sikufanya a business course na ku explain business terms zinaeza kuwa very tricky. Nilibonga na yeye akanishow hakuna haja ya kutense juu those students have no idea you have never taught and most of them read on their own anyway. Kama ni ku explain terms alinishow I can consult chatGPT to give explanations using simple English with practical examples. Amenishow its just the first week, wiki ya pili nitakuwa imara kabisa. Akanishow kama quack tutors who were caught after using fake credentials to get the job are able to teach students and the students pass exams sasa mimi mwenye nimeenda shule nikagraduate ntashindwa aje. The pay si mbaya ni 45k gross, after taxes I will be taking home 35k its lower than what I used to earn (70k gross after taxes 55k) but its a start. I will be having at most 3 lessons per day. The college provides accommodation since I have to start again from scratch but he told me 1br units have already been taken up and are full. The remaining units available are 2br units and the caveat is that I have to share the unit with another tutor and if not comfortable with a roomate, after getting my 1st salary I have the option of finding my own place and operating from outside.
Amenipea mpaka 31st (next Friday) to make a decision juu 3rd November tunaanza orientation and then 10th I officially start tutoring. He had presented the same opportunity to some campus mates wenye wako kwa mawe pia but they passed on it. I used to hate teaching since high school I remember even making fun of teachers but now naona huko ndo naelekea. Wenye wamefunza before whats the experience like and what should I expect?

I’ve actually stood in for a friend who is a lecturer, tulisoma na yeye pale UON. Angejua hata make it to class or wanted someone to explain a concept I was good at, alikuwa ananipigia simu. Alikuwa tutorial fellow, jamaa ali graduate with first-class honors.
I’ve taught several times, nilianza kufunza wasee nikiwa form one, nilikuwa na funza wasee wa form four pale library mao za form one, ningefunza undergraduates walikuwa wananisho ‘You teach really well kuliko lec wetu.. mazeh unaeza hata lala.. but ume tu take through poa,’ Na washo I’m not a lecturer by profession. Teaching has always come naturally to me.

Na nilisema vizuri tu hapa wazi wazi nilikuanga makanga 2018-2020 after covid nikapata job yenye ilikam kukatika last year August.
