Apparently, a plane made an emergency landing on its belly. Runaway temporarily closed. My flight was @ 3:30 pm, till now no signs of flights resuming. Actually no plane has landed or taken off since 3 pm

All airlines have been grounded. Both outgoing and incoming. We haven’t been told whether the airline that made an emergency landing was local or international. But what we know is everyone on the plane was safely evacuated

Several passengers had to wait longer for their flights Sunday evening when the main runway at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) was closed for hours after an airplane from Somalia crash-landed.
Officials said an aircraft from Somalia made an Emergency Landing at JKIA landing on its belly and veered off the runway.
Four people who were on board escaped unhurt.
“As a result the runway is temporarily closed to evacuate the aircraft,” said a statement from Kenya Airports Authority.
The runway was still inaccessible by last evening and all arriving planes were being diverted to Mombasa and other airports.

It’s called preparedness. Zero. Zilch. Thank goodness there was no tragedy. With the right equipment and personnel that fokker should have been hauled off the runway to a hangar somewhere in less than an hour and operations resumed back to normal.
heheh. I am not an expert of planes, but this is so rural village. Investigations have to be done or at least start and the place has to be inspected. landing gear fails, a plane skids on the runway, and you pull the plane off the runway and start using it with abandon?? Ndege sio nduthi. You can have another mega disaster in hours on that runway because of arrogance.

A piece of debris on the runway can be a disaster. The concorde first and final disaster was when one run over a piece of metal engine cover from a DC-10 on the runway that had come off because it hadnt been fixed well.

I am a fan of Air crash investigation and remember this episode very well. The investigators flew to US to inspect the plane that had left before the concord and determined that a piece as small as a 30 cm ruler came off that plane and caused the concord disaster.
