Actually, when WW2 started, China was in the middle of a civil war.. Japan was winning heavily until they messed up by challenging the very powerful WW2 era Americans. The point is, there has to be a peer adversary for it to be considered a World War.. since the smaller nations have to pick sides (or stay neutral).
