Is Being Black the Issue Or Is It Simply Racism

The net worth of all black people in US will be zero in a few years. Asin if you compare kukopa na the amount of money they have in bank accounts, they are worthless. Bado ni racism au mangiiga hukuwa hukuwa to schupit

Median wealth of black Americans ‘will fall to zero by 2053’, warns new report

Study predicts huge and growing gulf between white US households and everyone else could be disastrous for future of America’s middle class
Three years from now, white US households are projected to own 86 times more wealth than black households
“By 2020, median black and Latino households stand to lose nearly 18% and 12% of the wealth they held in 2013 respectively, while median white household wealth increases by 3%,” the report states. “At that point – just three years from now – white households are projected to own 86 times more wealth than black households, and 68 times more wealth than Latino households.”

With the US set to become “majority minority” by 2044, researchers say this spells major economic peril for the nation. “If the racial wealth divide continues to accelerate, the economic conditions of black and Latino households will have an increasingly adverse impact on the economy writ large, because the majority of US households will no longer have enough wealth to stake their claim in the middle class.”

The authors cite the legacy of discriminatory housing policies, an “upside down” tax system that helps the wealthiest households get wealthier, and the economic effects of mass incarceration as among the root causes for the discrepancy.

“The middle class didn’t just happen by market forces, and the whiteness of the middle class didn’t just happen by market forces. Both were intentional,” said Dedrick Asante-Muhammad, a senior fellow at Prosperity Now and one of the report’s authors.

Take homeownership, which has long been the primary means by which Americans of modest and middle-class income are able to build generational wealth. After the broken promise of “40 acres and a mule” to newly freed slaves, virtually nothing was done to endow black Americans with a share of the wealth generated by centuries of slave labour – the same labour that, directly or indirectly, helped to build most of the wealth enjoyed by white Americans.

So black Americans started off generations behind, only to encounter the redlining and racially restrictive housing covenants of the early-to-middle 20th century, which prevented the sale of many homes to black Americans, and isolated them together in communities that lost value as white residents fled to the suburbs.

“The majority of white Americans weren’t middle class until the 1930s or 40s,” Asante-Muhammad told the Guardian. “Then there was mass investment to create an American middle class – but it was a white American middle class.”

Programs such as the GI bill, which offered returning WWII veterans generous lending terms to buy houses, helped turn the US into a home-owning middle class society – from which black Americans were functionally excluded. In his 2005 book When Affirmative Action was White, Ira Katznelson notes that of the first 67,000 mortgages insured by the GI Bill, fewer than 100 were taken out by non-white people.

Recent economic crises have widened this wealth gap, according to the report, as communities of colour took the brunt of the economic hit. Black median wealth has never recovered from the 2001 recession, nor Latino median wealth from the 2008 financial collapse. White median wealth, on the other hand, was left unaffected in 2002, and began rebounding just two years after the speculative housing bubble began to implode.

“Unfortunately home values don’t come back in the same way in black communities when things happen,” said Althea Saunders-Ranniar, a financial coach and advisor in Baltimore, Maryland, where about 95% of her clients are black.

One of the things Asante-Muhammad and his co-authors found extremely important was focusing on inequality of wealth as opposed to income, because they felt it was a more accurate test of middle-class status.

“You find first-generation, even second-generation African-American and Latino households that have professional jobs and are making ‘middle-income money’ – but they have the wealth of a white high-school dropout,” Asante-Muhammad said. “They’re not truly part of a middle class – which would mean financial stability, money to weather challenging economic situations, or money to invest in the economic opportunities of their children.”

The solution, he said, is to “invest in a 21st-century American middle class. We need to make sure, for the first time, that we are investing in a middle class that includes communities of colour. This generally hasn’t been done before.”

Despite all the institutional and historical barriers, Hamilton remains determined to make the lift – even if those investments never come. “I’m mad because I didn’t start 20 years ago, but it’s OK. I dare not be selfish and not pass this knowledge down to my kids – ones who I know have a chance.”
She hopes to pass more than simply knowledge down, and is on track to come up with a down payment for a modest home by late 2018. “In 20-30 years, even if they still have to pay the mortgage, I can tell them: ‘It’s yours. This is yours.’”

Black Americans on average don’t know how to live frugally. I see it all the time, how poorly they manage their money (like not saving 80% of their earnings :))

They must dress their kids in the latest fashion while the white kids wear clothes from Salvation Army, the corduroys, torn jeans and worn out sneakers. Lakini when it comes to education whites are busy thriving in honors and AP classes, while the best dressed blacks languish in remedial land. In America, there’s no race that can out dress negroes, they always got to look and smell like a million bucks.

When a new model car comes out ndio hao blacks kwa dealership. Eating out ni saa zote. They must have the McMansion and all the middle class trappings. Blacks were disproportionately affected by the 2008 mortgage crisis because they bought more house than their paycheck could sustain.

I like to think that myself and other Africans in the diaspora are different than your typical black American person. Our outlook on life is more aligned with wazungu. We take education and being responsible very seriously. I work with these white guys who’ve taught me alot about finances. Despite being dollar multimillionaires they still carry packed lunch to work, they drive used cars and keep their expenses low.

Black Americans will never command any financial power until they start making the right lifestyle choices!

Spoken like a true Aunt Jemima.

Vile purple amesema African Americans ain’t shit they have a sense of entitlement ambayo sipendi, they breed like roaches, smoke crack all day and are full of crap

True DAT,true dat

I live in “FM America”, and unlike “Am America” of Aunt Jemima, whites do not even shop for school clothes in Wal Mart. They prefer Target, Coles, and the like. Even I don’t shop the Salvation Army. :stuck_out_tongue:
The history of Wealth and Ownership is well documented in American culture. To understand it you must first understand the history behind it.
It is based on a comparison of New Money vs Old money and goes beyond stats throw out there aimlessly. Old money usually refers to people who are part of long-established, upper-class families and who have wealth that has been inherited over several generations. New money is that which has been made recently, often by entrepreneurs, entertainers or athletes. Very few black families belong in the first category.

Take two hypothetical friends- one black, the other white. They’ve been friends since K Grade, graduate College with Accounting Degrees, and get a job at the same Big Bank with equal income and responsibilities. Five years down the road, the economy tanks and their bank like others similar collapse and they are both out of a job. Whose house would be foreclosed on first for none payment of mortgage?

Btw, the radio frequencies refer to Sub-urban versus Rural America respectively.

Kuna rafiki anaitwa anto alienda America juzi…waaah the guy dresses to kill. Hadi alikuwa na mustang 1 year into moving there!

A very detailed analysis. Unfortunately for us who emigrate to America, our offspring are eventually swallowed by the predominant black culture and end up in the same hole you just described. First generation Africans are high achievers, second generation achieve even more buoyed by the sheer determination of their parents, but from there it’s all the way down as they assimilate and identify more with the predominant black culture.( Human Verification )

I hope Anto rafiki yako ako na ma paper. Otherwise kama hana ata deport iwa home bila kitu. These are the Kenyans giving the rest of us a bad name. :D:D:D

You nailed it. Ni muhimu sana to pick a school district where there are many whites and Asians to ensure your kid stays ahead academically. The reality is that schools with predominantly black and Latino populations are disruptive. If you want to succeed in America, take a look at what the elite white and Asian (Indians/Chinese) families are doing. These people got life figured out mbaya sana.

And scream racism when things don’t go their way

Something interesting happened after Trump ascended to power. Blacks wakajua welfare and other government benefits will be severed so what happened? They went to work! Today, blacks have the lowest unemployment rate in decades vis a vis during Obama’s tenure where 53% of the population was being coddled with handouts. What I can recall most about Obama was him dishing out money like Father Christmas, not Trump. Republicans may seem brutal but they know how to keep people on their toes. The US economy is booming there’s no room for laziness or feeling entitled to unearned privilege.

The thing is, that ‘laziness’ you refer to is an after effect of years of subjugation and oppression of the black man. They know that the system is primed against them and that the colour of their skin will always play a part on whether or not they will be afforded equal opportunity. And the current ‘boom’ is not a result of Republican policies but due to the cyclic nature of the global economy. And I’m yet to understand how a black sister like you would be pro-Trump/Republican.

Hakuna kitu kama hiyo!! LOL. :D:D

I live in a county that is 97% white Republican and let me tell you, I experienced more bad attitudes from black Americans in the big cities.

Racism is an ogre that black Americans have built up in their minds to justify being failures in life. Fine, there’s few incidents but nothing widespread like what the media portrays.

Black people can learn how to beat the system by exemplifying excellence, instead they choose to do dumb sh#t that eventually catches up with them. The Chinese and Indian immigrants start down there but over time, they have clawed their way to the top. The difference is a culture of hard work, valuing education/family, building wealth through years of frugality and making smart financial decisions.

You want to beat up your teachers who want to instill an education and ape gangstas in a country that is brimming with opportunities? Don’t cry racism when you “graduate” from high school barely able to read or do simple math.

He is balling hard! Hopefully he has papers…siwezi mtakia mabaya!

black americans are naturally stupid

White American Population 72%
Black American Population 12%

This is very true!

Why wouldn’t she be a Republican? The Republicans have done more for blacks that the Democrats eg emancipation, they gave them the civil rights while the Democrats wanted racial segregation. In fact the KKK was formed by southern democrats. LBJ(Democrat) gave blacks welfare which destroyed their families.

That might be true but since the Clinton Presidency and its pro-Black policies, the Democratic Party has been the party of people of colour and other minorities. Republicans are conservative and mainly seen as the party for White males.
