Iran and Saudi rivalry is largely artificial driven by western interests. All those western expats each earning million of dollars working in Saudi will be rendered jobless if Saudi was to cooperate with Iran. Iran will supply the skills Saudi needs at a fraction of the western expats pay.
Partly true …history of the two countries is highly intertwined with Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (Shell/BP) and Arabian-American oil company. (chevron/Exxonmobbil) . Iran nationalized its oil 1950’s by kicking out the Brits and the monarch/shah . In Saudi Arabia -royal family wouldn’t want a similar uprising thus they turned to America for logistical, military and financial support to stay in power in exchange of oil supply …plus the usual Shia vs Sunni chieth.
