Internships

What’s up with some companies taking advantage of the youth. Yes, there are some jobs that some experience in an internship would really take you a long way, but why hire a waiter/waitress as an intern pale steers? or even a cook in a pizza making kitchen???

Hii ndio kutumia watu vibaya sasa!, I wonder whether there is any return in terms of cash they offer the intern!?

slave mentality

Sasa ulikuwa unataka majamaa wa food science waishie attacho kwa Chef @Gio

Stick to bargains hunting pale galleria.

an internship should assist you get proper experience that is unavailable elsewhere. Sasa kuwa waiter ni nini?, anybody can do that job, its just exploiting them if you ask me

Stop reasoning like a frog. Why do people to to school to learn “waiting” if anybody can do it? And how do they perfect their waiting skills without an internship?

Internship gives you practical experience and a chance to learn the organization’s culture, in the hospitality industry it is important, hata mimi if i owned a restaurant that is a known brand, i would never give a graduate a direct waiter job until i see their internship experience,You should see the customer service in a some of the 5 star hotels in Kenya, extremely bad,

4 months into my internship; having completed the initial 3 months and getting a 3-month extension, I realised that training a certain number of guys was a Key Performance Index of that company’s H.R. Manager. For me, it was about getting a job, but for her it was about getting bonuses at the end of the year. I tendered my resignation soon thereafter.
I don’t mind the 3 month probation period, but an extension should be on the promise of a job at the end of that 6 months. Sio watu kukutumia vibaya. Unapata jamaa amekuwa intern for 9 months. Sigwess.

And the interview was about slices and its various derivatives…

ndio hio link!

Responsibilities for the Intern Waiter/Waitress Job
[ul]
[li]Prepare the restaurant for service by ensuring the eating area is cleaning and arranged accordingly.[/li][li]Collects orders when prepared and serves to guest[/li][li]Collects all dirty cutlery and crockery from the table once guests have completed their meal[/li][li]Maintains a high standard of personal hygiene and appearance[/li][li]Follow instructions from the Manager in regards to daily running of the restaurant[/li][/ul]

Are these the roles to have an intern for, why don’t they just give them a job? What experience would you learn from those responsibilities?

Internship nowadays doesn’t achieve its goal, I wish matiangi could also look into this

Kuna mtu alisema in the hospitality industry utapata like only 30% of the employees ndio wako permanent the rest ni interns…maybe that’s how these guys make profits…

Probably.

Harassment of the highest order

I donno why a waiter needs to be an intern or go to college for that matter. A person aged 16 and over can be trained to wait tables in a week. The only hard thing is to balance glasses ( if you must). Chefs do need a formal education and internships. But not at fast food restaurants.

Maybe they do this to get free or very cheap labor.

Yeah, this is true, I hate this.

I think this video is not about the thread. As for the exploitation of people, it’s practiced in many countries. No one will think of your family and they want to get slaves for their benefit. My close friend can’t find a good job for a long time, because there are free internships everywhere, and then they fire people and take others. Because of this, he became addicted to alcohol and now may lose his family. But I have heard that there are also paid internships (for example here city-internships.com) that can then provide a good job or connections to get a good place to work. After my close friend gets rid of alcohol addiction in rehabilitation, I will offer him this option, perhaps it will save him from trouble.
