industrialization by the year 2020 - or so we thought

In the year 2020 we were in lockdowns and no one thought it was the year was projected in 1996 to be for joining the elite club of industrialized nations
we have changed goal posts and discarded industrialization to make 2030 target for an amorphous developmental target
8 years to get there yet we cant feed ourselves, debt has spiraled out of control all toothpicks are imports. you have bonobos (i hate the term) frothing in the mouth demanding stained mitumba underwear yet we once had a thriving textile sector.
Kenya was once an industrial powerhouse in Eastern Africa but other countries have been catching up. our own has ability to create new ones or retain old ones has diminished. indigenous industry that thrives most is the kariobangi counterfeit racket. Before we blame corruption nepotism bla bla could there be a more sinister conspiracy theory to explain the failure? the traditional fear of a communist uprising that Marx predicted would take place among factory workers be a reason for sabotaging industrialization? Would africans in an advanced industrial setting be better politically self aware and organized, to threaten our neo-colonial political order?
